Born in 1963 in Ankara, living in Istanbul, Turkey. Having received a BA Industrial Design degree at Middle East Technical University, she later studied Jewelry and Metals at Parsons’ School of Design in New York. Ela Cindoruk is current partner of ‘elacindoruknazanpak’ jewelry gallery and workshop in Istanbul, which she co-founded in 1993. Alongside her work as a jeweller, she has designed products and lecturing at Istanbul Bilgi University and Istanbul Technical University. Ela Cindoruk participates exhibitions and her work is showcased at galleries throughout the world. Exhibition highlights include the V & V Gallery “orna-mental” Exhibition in 2007 in Vienna and Wallpaper* GlobalEdit06 in Milan. Recently she participated fashion shows/exhibitions “Garde-robes” and “Gooood Food” both at the Saint-Etienne International Design Biennial 2006. Amazed by the potential of materials she often choses to utilize the richness of materials to achieve contrastingly simple solutions. Ela’s work is a result of her interest in habits of ornamentation in various cultures in personal and public space. Creating contrast and harmony among ideas/meaning, form and color are at very core of her work.
